uh-tyaa-ha-rah/ Sanskrit
noun. The act of taking in more than necessary.
A curious name for a design brand — and precisely why it felt right.
In Ayurveda, imbalance begins when we overconsume, when we take more than we need. Our modern world runs on that very excess: mass-production, instant gratification, objects without origin or soul. Atyāhāra exists as a counterpoint — a return to patience, material honesty, and the quiet beauty of things shaped slowly.
The brand was born in 2020 from a simple idea: to honour India’s mineral heritage through thoughtful, limited creations. What began as sharing raw stones on Etsy has grown into a design house rooted in geological storytelling, craftsmanship, and restraint.
Today, Atyāhāra works directly with mines and artisans across India to create minimalist stone décor, sculptural objects, and limited-edition carvings — each piece shaped by the Earth over millions of years and refined by hand. No excess. No noise. Just natural form elevated through design.
Every object is made in small quantities. Every material is traced to its origin. And every piece carries both the geometry of nature and the quiet discipline of Indian craft traditions.
Indulgence, for us, isn’t about abundance.
It’s about choosing what endures — stone, story, and the slow beauty of the handmade.

Our family's legacy began in 1947 when my great-grandfather, an architect, fled Lahore for Bombay during the partition. From humble beginnings, he entered the world of gold and diamonds, laying the foundation for a flourishing family business. My father, however, was drawn to something different—Indian rocks. He founded Nikhil Gems, valuing the potential beauty in what others saw as mundane stones. His passing at a young age left me questioning this passion, but over time I came to understand it. Beauty, I learned, is not defined by rarity but by the stories these stones hold. Through Atyāhāra, I aim to tell these stories, to let the Earth's natural creations speak for themselves, allowing you to experience the raw, unrefined beauty that lies beneath the surface.
